The Dog and the Porcupine - Johnny Crashed

The dog and the porcupine met one day
Underneath a trailer in the pouring rain
Thunder and lightning like the God's in pain
“It’s gonna be a helluva night”

The sky opened up and the heavens rained down
All the animals could do is take a quick look around
And the dog and the porcupine from different parts of town
Said this is gonna have to do

The dog said, "We should quickly get one thing straight
I'm a killer by nature; people say it's innate
I'm going to let my guard down while we sit here and wait
But then it's just a matter of time"

The porcupine said, " I understand what you mean
I know you've had some run in's with creatures like me
Let's just stay dry and keep space in between
Cuz it's gonna be a helluva night”

And we all get a little scared sometimes, that's all

The dog said, "I guess my whole family's like me
Always on guard they say it's our breed
Sometimes I wish though that I could just breathe
It's gonna be a helluva night”

The porcupine said, "I understand how you feel
Sometimes these quills are less then ideal
No one ever invites me in for a meal
I'm guessing that it's pretty clear why”

The dog said, "If I can be honest with you
In a previous life I'd have known what to do
But now that I've met you I'm really confused
It's feeling like a hell of a night”

The porcupine nodded his head as he spoke
"I only came under to avoid getting soaked
You're really quite different and I'm kind of stoked
It's feeling like a hell of a night”

The morning arrived with a terrible sigh
The dog and the porcupine met with their eyes
Each one knowing that the other one cried
“It really was a helluva night”

The dog said, "I think I'll just head down the road
The guy that I work for he won't need to know"
The porcupine said, "That really lightened my load
It really was a helluva night”
